Norma John to Represent Finland!

Last night, the Finnish national final UMK took place, where ten acts took to the stage all hoping to win the top spot and ultimately go on to represent Finland at Eurovision in Kyiv. The show was hosted by Krista Siegfrids, and the pre-show was hosted by Mikko Silvennoinen and featured Finnish pop star Jenni Vartiainen and twins Marcus and Martinus.

The ten acts competing were:

  1. Emma – Circle Of Light

  2. Alva – Arrows

  3. Günther & D’Sanz – Love Yourself

  4. Anni Saikku – Reach Out For The Sun

  5. Knucklebone Oscar & The Shangri-La Rubies – Caveman

  6. Norma John – Blackbird

  7. Lauri Yrjölä – Helppo elämä

  8. Club La Persé – My Little World

  9. Zühlke – Perfect Villain

  10. My First Band – Paradise

The voting was made up of 50% televote, and 50% was from an international jury. The international jury featured members from Estonia, France, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

The jury votes revealed that Norma John were on top with 94 points, followed by Zühlke on 74 and Emma on 53. As the televoting results came in, it showed that Norma John won the contest with a considerable margin. Norma John finished on 182 points, then Zühlke on 145 points and Emma finishing in 3rd place with 106 points.

Despite Emma being picked to win the contest, Norma John out-performed all other acts to win the contest with their song Blackbird. Norma John is made up of two longtime friends Leena and Lasse, who create indie music with a cinematic feel. The song Blackbird is about a break up, and the way you feel when you are reminded of the past.
